First of all, do we ban people for the terrible things they do? Guns kill people as well but they are here to stay, thats for sure. I have 2 pits and they are big babies, all depends on the PERSON that raises them, the things they teach or dont teach their dog is the reason these things happen. If you have an agressive or even vicious dog it is your responsability to take the proper precautions to ensure that nobody is endangered. Any dog can be made mean, these people who fight pits are the primary contributers. They have developed new ways to make their dog mean, such as raw meat, gunpowder, imbreading, etc. Well I have an opinion and wanted to voice it. But it truely breaks my heart for the breed to be blamed for peoples mistakes.

I work with dogs every day, pit bulls come in all the time and i never have any problem with them. The dogs that bite me are other breed that are known as family house hold dogs but are not trained by irresposible owners. I my self own a pit bull and she is the sweetest dog i have ever met. Theres so many pitbulls that have done great things for many people. You made the statement that people should be charged for there carelessness towards breeding and raising the breed, so take it out on the people by writing articles on how they should be stopped by being thrown into jail; taking it out on the whole breed by banning them would be completely unfair to not only the majority of good dogs but their owners who adore them as well. Look theres to many good dogs out there for you to get pissed of and write an article on how they should be banned; I agree that something should be done, but this isnt the right way to go about it. Besides many of the dogs that attack people are dogs that are similar to/or related to pittbulls, not the actual breed pittbul. I think what happened to that women and her dog is very sad . But i do not agree that Pitbulls should be banned, sure some owners are careless or have them for the wrong reasons. But what about those that do care for their pitbulls and take the time to train them into being smart, respactfull , and very loyal companions. What about us? To us our pitbull is part of our family and it would sadden me to see her get taken away . She is a 49 pund , Red nosedBoudreoux and she is the sweetest most lovable dog ever. My husband and i both treat her well and give her as much love as possible she has never showed any aggresion towards anyone. SPARTANBURG, S. C. -- A 4-year-old Spartanburg County girl died of severe head injuries after being attacked by her family's rottweilers.

Asia Turner was playing in her back yard when she was attacked by her family's rottweilers, named Luke and Duke.

The girl's grandmother, Lana Bogan, said one dog was chained to a clothesline and the other had gotten out of a fence.

"He broke loose. They are big dogs," said Bogan. "I don't know if another dog in the neighborhood was here and stirred him up or what."

Investigators said there were no witnesses to the attack and neighbors said they didn’t hear anything unusual.

Neighbors said the victim's father was inside taking a nap when the attack happened.

"It's too early to tell if it was a initiated attack of the dogs or if the two dogs were fighting and the child got in the middle of it," said Don Arnold, a spokesman for Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement.

Bogan said one of the dogs seemed to be more aggressive than the other.

"The only time I've seen either one of them get aggressive is when I had Duke and they brought Luke over there, Duke tried to get toward Luke," said Bogan. "That's when I told them they didn't need to keep the two dogs together."


Neighbors said they were cautious of both dogs.

"The rottweilers have growled and lunged at me," said Charlotte Ridings.

Ridings said she believes the attack could have been prevented.

"Yeah, I think it could've been prevented," said Ridings. "I hope they don't bring the dogs back, because we will petition it."

The dogs were taken to the Spartanburg Humane Society. They will be held there for 10 days.

South Carolina law does not require the dogs be put to sleep because the attack happened on the owner's property.

Hi! In response to your "there should be a national ban on pitbulls" - why should responsible pitbull guardians have to suffer because of a few rotten miscreants?! Those that have pitbulls that are using them for illegal dogfighting or those that don't properly supervise their dog, then, yes, they should pay for their deeds. There are MANY responsible pitbull guardians who love their dogs and take the time and put forth the effort to train their dogs and NEVER, EVER let their dogs roam unattended. the problem originated from thugs .....with no knowlege of genetics or dog breeding , they mated pitbulls with larger and nastier dogs of any breed. the result was a mixed breed dog that the punks still called pitbull. these dogs, mixed with rottweilers, shepherds and mongrels are no more american pitt bull terrier than puppies from border collie-labrador retriever cross are still border collies or retriever.
but the media loves its monster. the media focused its cameras and commentaries on the teeth and muscles of bloodied, exhausted dogs picked up during police raids on dogfights, instead of on the perverted people who placed those dogs in the pit and wagered on the outcome.

contrary to popular hysteria and media hype, the original dogfighters never bred nor trrained the APBT to be human agressive.
imagine anyone wanted to work with a dangerous dog for hours every day in a keep or how many handlers would have agreed to a match if they thought they would have to bathe the other handler's vicious man-biter before the fight?
fact is that pitbull had to be friendly, steady and reliable around people because they had to be handled in all sorts of circumstances.

i totally disagree with your comment on banning these wonderful and intelligent dogs, if they are in the hands of an irresponsible owner then surely it is the owners fault and not the innnocent pet, anyhow, any animal can turn nasty when teased to an extent. i have 2 pitbulls and they are the most affectionate and loyal dogs i have ever had, its the irresponsible parents that should not let their children taunt or tease these animals knowing how strong they are, i teased a small cocker spaniel when i was younger and it nearly tore my hand off, and no one is mentioning putting a ban on them, it is ridiculous and if you do not like pitbulls then keep away from them, do not ban them and ruin the fun and enjoyment that pitbull lovers all around the world get out of these wonderful and loyal guard dogs!

How then will banning a breed solve all the world's problems? Think of it this way. A breed gets banned, the "people" that don't care or choose to make their dogs vicious will continue to do so and /or just go ruin another breed. Tell me, why then has it only been in the last 10 years or so that we've heard about pit bull attacks? The breed has been around for alot longer than that. American German Shepards are the laughing stock of the GSD world. That is why police departments and such usually only import their dogs straight from Germany where higher standards in breeding are required. I have been raising and breeding APBTs for over 20 years now. I HAVE NEVER been bitten, threatened nor have my children or grand childen ever been.
(granted they have a very powerfull bite) I would choose an APBT over any other breed out there. (and I am also an obedience instructor)
