**** It just doesn't work ****

I was a Long time listener to the Howard Stern Show.
I drive about 1.0 - 1.5 hours in the car each morning, so a good morning show is important to eat up the time while I drive.

I enjoyed Howards show for years, not because he was perverted or foul-mouth, but because the show was different each morning, made me think sometimes, and made me laugh a lot.

I have listened to David Lee Roth for 3 days now in a row and the show is flatline ......................................................
Tuesday I listened to a 2 hour interview with his uncle. - Interesting guy, long time show biz guy with pretty interesting stories. But still a strange way to start off the new radio show. I would have had Dave tell me a little about himself
Wednesday was with call-ins about gun control - Dave is into guns, but he set himself up as an expert on them which I don;t think he really is.
Thursday was about parenting - Again Dave set himself up as an expert giving people advice on parenting. Does he even have kids?

The show is failing on a few different levels.
1) He has set himself up as the expert on all subjects, giving advice to all that call or discuss.
2) His attempts at comedic punchlines and one liners are met with silence much like when Denis Miller tried a stint on Monday night football.
3) There is no spark to the show. There is no BLip! during the show to wake you up, which I need in a morning show.

It is not a bad show. It is simply ok, nothing more.
There are already alot of OK shows in the morning that I choose not to listen to, this is becoming one of those REAL quick.

If i was a betting man I would say he is off the air before Spring.

I can imagine that DLR would be pretty mediocre at a morning show.

But hey, as long as I have Bob and Tom, I am set.

Ugggh

1 month into the show and it still doesn't work.
I have an hour commute in the morning but I can;t bring myself to listen to him any more.

He still isn't terrible, it's just that he has no sizzle.
He has gotten better than the first week which was a joke, but these are the things that still don't work

1) His Topics - The topics are mediocre at best, but his constant bouncing to other subjects and back leaves people lost.
2) His sense of Humor - Does anyone get his jokes? I sure don't. I'm pretty sure only he does.
3) His performance - Too much shtick still. Maybe you just have to be a DLR fan to enjoy his way of speaking but I find it just to slick and packaged to be light and enjoyable.

I think DLR would be better off on a single station in a local market than sindicated. He offers nothing more than my other fine local stations in Boston. He is giving me no incentive to turn into his station for my hour ride in.

I guess he should go back to riding ambulance in New York. ;~D... that, or back to Van Halen.
